Today, a bunch of us found ourselves in downtown San Francisco’s Union Square: the shopping district, on the busiest shopping day of the year. It sounds like a terrible idea. And it was a little. The crowds and Christmas merchandising were overwhelming. I generally like Christmas, but Christmas shoppers plus Christmas jingles on repeat makes me very un-jolly. Anyway, we stayed around to see them light the big tree in Union Square, which was pretty enough. After the lighting, we also happened to witness a protest (this was so San Francisco)… a mass parade of bicycle riders swarmed through the streets, shouting mostly indecipherable but generally negative ephitets at all the consumers with their bags of sweatshop labor products. Below are Maria and I in our new Old Navy sweatshop labor shirts.
